Well, back from live-roleplaying and I'm pleased to say that although I thought I was dead on Saturday afternoon, apparently a physician stopped the bleeding just in time and so I survived. It's odd walking around being greeted by cries of "I thought you were dead!" :-)
However, the death I suffered on Sunday afternoon did happen. Being ahead of the party (or rather behind the party, as it fled), surrounded by foes and unable to walk rather has that effect. It's odd to be lying in the middle of a compound hearing folk you barely know bewailing your fate while a necromancer sends your soul to join the Gods 0:-D
I should have seen the New Kit Curse coming when I not only made myself some new kit but *also* helped someone else make herself some earlier that weekend. She ended up lying next to me in the funeral :-(
I'm sad to lose the character, as he was fun to play; but it was nice to lose him where he was prominent among the 200-odd people. That way I spent the rest of the day with lots of very kind people saying how they'd liked him and how sad they were that he was dead. Definitely the right way to go :-)
Hmm, you'd think there'd be a "Dead" mood icon. This'll have to do...

Date: 2005-08-30 10:04 am (UTC)To be honest, playing I knight I am bound to be seriously hurt (in character) very regularly. The way the system works I need to be hit in the same place a minimum of 8 or 9 times for me to take any damage, because my armour stops the first ones. Perversely, that means that I don't end up fighting normal people with swords, I end up facing demons with blades that cleave armour like paper, or mages who zap me from a distance. I'd probably get wounded less if I had less armour, as I'd be a less dangerous target :-)
Int he space of half an hour or so on Saturday, for example, I was variously chopped down by a demon, made to writhe in agony and chopped down by a demon as I recovered, struck down by demonic power which tore my body apart, and writhed again and stabbed as I was doing it. I barely got to actually fight anyone, I was either in agony or unconscious most of the time :-) I drew my blest blade three times against three demons and never got the chance to strike a blow with it :-)
Plenty of other chances to fight, though. Went out later and killed some pseudo-Frenchmen (not my fight, but they treacherously stabbed me then stole my sword, so I went to get it back. They did NOT taunt me a second time :-) ).

Date: 2005-08-30 11:37 am (UTC)That's one of the best bits about playing a knight: you get a lot of ready-made friends, people in general are nice to you, and you can froth up the formality.
My new one's not such a nice chap, but hopefully he'll still have some fun role-playing opportunities. I feel a bit cheesy to play a knight again, especially as that makes three in a row (though the first one only actually lasted about a week), but dammit I don't want to be some milksop mage or priest, I want to be chivalrous.
And given the amount of metal clothing I have, it seems such a waste to be wearing robes :-)

Date: 2005-08-30 04:32 pm (UTC)Cyril was a very happy chappy, I'll have you know. A little confused, but very cheerful about it.
Mage robes are easy enough to make, I just don't really fancy being a mage. Life gets too complicated if you have to remember all that stuff; just go out and smite evil and be done with it. If you can work out who is evil, of course...
Hmm, that's disturbing - it sounds almost as if I was playing one of Ladyofastolat's Baldur's Gate characters. Ah, no: he actually used his brains, and could string a sentence together. And I'm not blonde and muscly. Phew! :-D

And I'm staying out of any discussion that involves Ladyofastolat. She would smite me in a heartbeat if I took your side.

Date: 2005-08-30 04:39 pm (UTC)They are thick, though. I'll grant you that. When you want 18/00 strength and 18 dexterity and 18 charisma, something has to go. Who needs brains, anyway.

Date: 2005-08-30 04:56 pm (UTC)Right now I'm still working sloooowly on my solo-no-reloads game. Last night with the help of a few scrolls of Protection from Undead, I went through the Shade Lord's temple. Although I tiptoed past the dragon and let him be. No way am I facing a dragon on a no-reloads game!
