Oh dear.

I should have learnt my lesson after introducing LadyofAstolat to PC games all those years ago, with the resultant incessant headshots from invisible snipers.

I even had a reminder recently after getting a longbow and finding that she's a better shot than me, despite not being able to draw it fully.

And now I am entirely failing to beat her at the properly grognardy hex-and-counter wargames that she's only been playing since last week.

To be fair, I have been playing the French and the scenarios explicitly dare you to try and win with them ("You'll be attacking over streams, into ditches and against a shield wall with only a 1 in 4 chance of surviving... but we'll give you an extra victory point if you do! Go on, you know you want to! Tee hee."). But still...

Ho hum. I wonder if I can get her to play the Scots at Falkirk?

Hey now. I was playing computer games when you were still a little boy. I was writing computer games while you were still a little boy. I was playing Kingmaker and Risk before you were in double figures. So not so fast with taking credit for my gaming.

I spent the entire journey home from Gosport trying to plot tactics for when I play the French, by the way...

Hah. I was playing and writing computer games when I was in single figures, and playing Kingmaker, Risk, D&D and miniatures wargames too.

As for you, a program which involves you picking flowers is not a wargame. Mine had spaceships, shooting, violent death and other proper subjects for the leisure time of a juvenile male.

You weren't playing Kingmaker, anyway, you were just moving counters around. What was your reaction the first time you played against me - "You can't attack people, can you!?!", or something like that?

So there. :-p

Yes, but my single figures were a year before your single figures, so I still win.

And there was violent death in my flower-picking VIC-20 game. You died horribly if you accidentally picked the deadly weed killer.

And I seem to remember that you've lost every game of Kingmaker you play, due to your habit of treacherously attacking anyone who moves, and thus ensuring that everyone else is allied in hatred for you. Defensive playing pays off sometimes.

You weren't talking about *your* single figures, you only referred to *mine*. That gives a minimum 15% chance that you were in double figures, even if one ignores the fact that the gaming went on towards the end of the period.

I still contend that picking weedkiller is not a wargame.

You have no data about my early Kingmaking life. There was a time I played seriously, against people who knew what they were doing, not for fun. Anyway, people ally against me no matter what I do. I can be playing very helpfully with people I've never met before, so hatred can't be a factor, and they *still* gang up on me. I suppose I'm just scarily good. Or easy to hate.

Ah, but your single figures took place in the freezing north, so you need to take terrain effects into accounts, plus the fact that you were outnumbered (by sisters). This means you need to take at least three off your die roll for... um... something.

I never said that picking flowers was a war game, but it was a game.

And if you're scarily good, what does that make me, given the gist of your original post? God-like?

God-like? Hah. Lucky, that's what!

So if we take three off my die roll for odds and terrain, you should presumably get a plus for being in a sleepy temperate village, and another for having no siblings at all. That gives you +2 on your single figures roll, which means when your adjusted age was 9 mine was 2.

How good were you at Kingmaker when you were 2, eh?
