Late status update
Jul. 12th, 2012 05:40 pmI've not done a proper update recently, so perhaps I should do a bit of a retrospective of the last few months.
I started a new job in February, being Head of Tax for a small accounting firm in Southampton. Most of the partners and managers know a fair bit of tax, but they want me to do all the interestingly complicated bits - VAT, NIC, complex transactions and so on. All good fun and with nice people :-) And they're teaching me golf tomorrow.
I have a new car, as my previous one was starting to fall apart a bit. All previous cars have been VW Polos, but this is a Skoda Fabia, which as far as I can tell is a Polo that's been made slightly larger and cheaper and has no noticeable downsides. If you want the detailed specs: it's blue.
I've made some new bellpads for morris dancing, which is one of those jobs I've been meaning to do for a while. Unfortunately it seems quite hard to get hold of sensible cotton twill tape to decorate them, but I have some left over from making the previous set 17 years ago which will just about do. So I have a temporary set-up, which will probably last 17 years before I get round to doing it properly :-)
My Fools and Heroes character died a few weeks ago. It was all my fault, rather - I had another go at an unkillable monster, when I should really have backed off and gone back another day. The party of seven took 75% casualties, in all, and there's a vital bit of plot that's needed for Summerfest still lying out in the wilderness...
I was rather sad about it for a while, as I had lots of fun playing him, he had lots of friends in character, and I had a lot of plans for other things for him to do. On the other hand there was a very gratifying reaction from other characters ("Oh no! Not Sir Robin!" and so on), and it will make Summerfest a bit easier if I'm not involved in plot so much. And I'm now having fun planning and playing my new character, and designing a back-up or three.
My new character is a barbarian who doesn't speak the local language much yet - this is partly because of the character I want to play, and partly to make sure I can't get involved in plot for a few months at least. I spent his first adventure not knowing at all what was going on, and blissfully ignoring the rest of the party :-D Though I now seem to be committing myself to learning Latvian and a whole new set of runes so I can mutter and scribble in character, and making masses of new kit...
Summerfest planning is the next big thing on the agenda. Hopefully it should all go pretty simply, as I think the broad outlines of what we did last year are the right way to go so all we need to do is fix the weaknesses and build on the strengths. Although LadyofAstolat seems to have taken over my bar, and ChainmailMaiden never lets me in the kitchen, so I suspect I might be spending large amounts of time just wandering around in character being irritiating and waiting to be called to deal with something out of character.
What else? Seems to be about it, really :-D

BTW, I haven't forgotten your extremely generous note of a couple weeks ago. Am still thinking on it.
