How to confuse a player
Oct. 10th, 2005 11:10 amD&D last night:
First I go off to have a look at a mausoleum - "OK, you stride manfully towards…" "I'm only five foot six, I can't stride. I scuttle." "Er, I thought you were a Ranger...?"
Then it's "You don't have a longsword? But you're a ranger!"
I do like mis-using stereotypes :-)
Then my crowning glory: six heavily-armed skeletons come out. I shoot rapidly, they crumble into dust. Three down, four… then PaladinofAstolat, who has reacted to my suggestion of "let's fight them in the open" by charging into the ruined chapel, is down to 4hp. I drop my bow, draw my hatchet and knife, and leap in - I take a critical hit for the Paladin, but it's only 4hp damage, and I reply for a double critical on the last one! Five kills out of the six monsters, and in glorious style!
So, three heavily armed and armoured fighters, clerics and paladins are on the floor with about 6hp between them, and the lightly-armoured weasel of a man has saved the day entirely with only a slight scratch :-D Perhaps people'll start listening to my plans, now…
I think I'm bad for this party, though. Rather than dither, as normal, I just make plans, tell people them once, then execute them. If (!) the others aren't listening, and cock it all up, then tough. So far I've come out smelling of roses and everyone else is three-quarters dead :-D

Also, I'm not so sure about this "I tell people my plans, then execute them." Not the best way to encourage them to listen, perhaps.

Date: 2005-10-10 02:22 pm (UTC)I shall resort to the standard web gambit of saying that my sentence is completely clear and only an idiot could read it the wrong way. It's even true, this time.
