Mar. 31st, 2006 01:09 pmIt has been pointed out to me that I haven't updated for a while, so here goes with a few random thoughts. I've pulled some out into separate posts for the sake of clarity.
Florida is nice, but very stretched out. It seems to suffer from a catch-22: every building has its own large car park, so it's easy to drive anywhere, but unfortunately putting a car park and access road next to each building makes them take up a lot of space (especially as they all tend to be low and spacious), so they have to be quite a long way apart. This makes it pretty much necessary to drive anywhere - though at least you know you'll get a parking space when you arrive. It strikes me that if one did away with the parking spaces you'd be able to walk where you're going as fast as you currently drive.
There is a side-effect in that it makes it very hard to tell whether you're in a town or not. If all you can see is trees you might be in a swamp in the middle of nowhere, but then again you might be next to a well landscaped building or an empty plot.
It's an improvement on Texas, though, as you do at least get trees.
Catching a cold immediately before going on holiday is slightly depressing, especially when said cold mutates into a cough that you still have two weeks later.
Getting back to work and having one's boss say "Welcome back. Your biggest client is having the biggest upheaval ever and we need the report by tomorrow. Did you do anything nice on holiday?" makes for an interesting week, but does tend to undo any relaxation and destressing one might have managed to achieve.
