On optimism

All this stuff on LadyofAstolat's LJ about pints has made me think.

The old question "is the glass half-full or half-empty?", where "it's half-full" makes you an optimist, "it's half-empty" a pessimist, and "it's twice as big as it should be" an engineer: I don't like those answers.

I, as an optimist, would like to see the glass as half-empty.  If it's half-full then I've been served a short measure, whereas if it's half-empty I've already had a drink and still have more to come :-D

Doesn't that make you a hedonist rather than an optimist?

Perhaps "as well as", rather than "rather than" :-)

I'm trying to work out something witty that the optometrist can say about these glasses.

Of course, your glass might be half full because the barman is still pulling the pint.

It probably means you should start thinking about who should buy the next round...
