Rising tensions in Europe
Sep. 20th, 2005 04:14 pmHmmm… playing Diplomacy by email (as Italy) I find some interesting developments occurring in the Europe of 1901. Unfortunately, I know that at least two of the other Great Powers have access to this LJ... oh, never mind, here goes: :-)
Russia's piled into Austria and Turkey, and seems to have something of a target-rich environment. Glad I'm not over there, but a bit worried that Russia will soon be knocking on my door.
Austria's a bit exposed. I think that Russia and I could almost take her out next turn, though that would a) be nasty and b) probably leave Russia better off than me. I think I should have a word with Austria and sort out some mutual defence.
England seems to have left half the fleet at home. There must be a deal there with France - she could have been menacing Brest. It does leave her weak, though, and open to a sudden attack from France in the near future. Could be interesting.
France has declared undying enmity against England, and proceeded to invade Spain. He's going to walk all over England in a couple of years, what with 3 builds next turn, unless something dramatic happens. Glad he's being friendly to me so far.
Germany's not done anything - missed the deadline, presumably. Hope she gets going this turn, or things could get messy up there...
Turkey's done nicely, and should be up for a couple of builds this year, so hopefully that will worry Russia a bit.
I seem to have potential enemies all over the place and a distinct lack of neutrals to take, so I'm going to have to move on someone just to get up to a sustainable size. It's going to be a long, hard war :-(
Next turn should be interesting, setting up the balance of power. Hope I actually get a bit of it :-)

Date: 2005-09-20 06:50 pm (UTC)Germany has maintained radio silence since the end of last week, I'm just hoping that everything is OK with her. I have a reserve player just in case -- let me know if you hear anything!
I'll admit that some of the initial moves were... unorthodox. All adds to the hilarity.
