What's the time, Mr Wolf?
Jan. 13th, 2006 10:52 amWhile dancing Oranges in Bloom last night I happened to glance at my watch to see how long we had to keep on doing it.
The little hand was nearly at the X, and the big hand was a couple of notches past it. In retrospect I interpret this as 9.52. We finish at 10.00, ish. Slightly early if, for example, confused by stupid (but elegant) Sherborne dances that go 1-hop-2-3 instead of a sensible 1-2-3-hop.
I think my thought process went something like:
- It says 9.52
- It's fast, so that's really about ten to ten
- I changed it the other day; if I hadn't it would be up by 9.55 or more
- But it isn't fast any more, so I need to take 5 minutes off
- So it's not ten to, it's quarter to.
- So we're going to do this about twice more.
- Bugger

- Hang on...
So I seem to be suitably confused about what time it is, but I'm not sure whether it's in a helpful way. On the plus side, at step 2 I seemed to be instinctively taking only a couple of minutes off the displayed time rather than the five I was doing a few days ago, so I am adapting in some way.
